Article on activity recognition

Human activity recognition is an important part of future context-aware applications that are able to customize their behavior by considering not only changes in the user’s environment but also in the user’s activities. Prof. Adil Khan was the first author in this article that was recently accepted to a SCIE journal:

  • Authors: Adil Mehmood Khan, Ali Tufail, Asad Masood Khattak and Teemu H. Laine
  • Title: Activity Recognition on Smartphones via Sensor-Fusion and KDA-Based SVMs
  • Journal: International Journal of Distributed Sensor Networks (SCIE)

With expertise of Prof. Khan and his team, future Ubilife applications will be able to utilize the user’s activity for input and interaction. For example, using activity recognition algorithms, an exergame (or any other wellbeing application) could detect whether the player is walking, running, cycling or commuting, and calculate estimated calorie expenditure accordingly. Many thanks to all authors!
